Andy Warhol Auction
Reception: Saturday, July 7th 2009
After the tragic death of Michael Jackson, his painting by Andy Warhol grew to be one of the most iconic images of the early 2000's. So much so that the work was shipped to England and displayed at the British Music Experience at the 02 complex in North Greenwich for public viewing as a part of Michael Jackson's Memorial site in 2005.
In 2009, Vered Gallery featured the work as part of a July 4th Weekend event that included a silent online auction of various works. The auction included work by Milton Avery, Gene Davis, and Amedeo Modigliani among others. The Michael Jackson portrait by Andy Warhol fetched more than $1 million at an East Hampton, New York, gallery. The 1984 painting was sold to an un-named speculator. It flew First-Class to Los Angeles where the buyer resides.
